Near Infrared Moisture Transmitter Curve Development At EH Wright Co , we have the laboratory capabilities and 12 years of experience in developing moisture curves for many different products. Currently we've developed curves for coal, minerals, gypsum, kaolin, wood chips, a multitude of clay bodies, and are finding new applications all the time.
EH Wright Co is offering its services in developing moisture curves. We are familiar with Kett, Chino and Process Sensors and of course our own brand- E. H. Wright Co. MIT2020. We currently charge $500 per calibration curve.
Curve Development overview...
|
This process is obviously different for different materials. Drying times definitely vary between say some minerals and clay. Here is an example of developing a curve for clay : |
Customers send us a sample of their product for curve development.
|
We dry the material to a lower moisture content than the Moisture Transmitter would ever be exposed to. |
|
Samples are then made. Ziploc bags are carefully numbered and labeled with sample weight and % moisture to be added. |
For clay we usually do about a 300 gram sample. Most curves normally involve 15 to 25 samples. |
We raise the moisture content of each sample by an interval that will take us through the range the process "sees". For example, let's say we want to take a material from 0 to 22% moisture over 20 samples and the samples are 300 grams each. 22% of 300 grams is 66 grams of water we need to add over the 20 samples. 66 grams divided by 20 is an interval of 3.3 grams per sample. So sample 1 will be 300 grams of clay and 0 grams of water, sample 2 will be 300 g of clay and 3.3 grams of water, sample 3 will be 300 grams of clay and 6.6 grams of water and so on.. |
|
After the desired moisture has been added to each sample, we let the samples "stand" for several days. This allows the moisture to permeate the entire sample. |
The samples are mixed periodically over time to ensure even distribution of moisture . |
Samples are then presented one at a time to the Moisture Transmitter. Absorbance numbers are recorded on the curve data sheet... |
|
and the wet weight. |
Samples are then placed in a temperature controlled oven for 48 hours. | Dry weights are then recorded on the curve data sheet. |
|
All data is entered into our own moisture curve development software. |
Faulty points, if any, are removed. |
The curve is then uploaded into the Moisture Transmitter. |
|
EH Wright Co's MIT 2020 Features include LED display, laptop communication, air purge to keep the optics clear.
